"It can happen to anyone" is just an excuse for an embarrassing mistake you didn’t take ownership of

“It can happen to anyone.” – It’s true. But the moment when your team has made a mistake is not the moment to take care of your team but of that guest.
Saying a thing like that seams like NEGLECTING a problem.
It is a clear sign you/your team are NOT taking full responsibility.
It shows you/your team do NOT understand potential pain or a consequence a guest is experiencing.
In deed, it might be a silly mistake BUT by not taking absolute ownership, concrete approach/action, providing response (many times even in phases in order to completely eliminate any doubt left on a guest’s side), you show you’re not considering it seriously.
This way, you are taking away from building a CLOSER CONTACT with that guest.
And those contacts bring the BENEFITS you probably dream about. LIKE LOYALTY NO MATTER THE PRICE.
On the other side, nothing should be an excuse to blame someone specifically (certain employee) and everything is an opportunity to learn.
Have a growth oriented work environment where your employees can learn from different situation and mitigate repeated errors or unpleasant situations.
