It’s not architecture’s job to design a perfect hotel

Of course architectures design spaces with users in mind. For example, if users are families, a floor plan is going to look differently then if users are couples or business travelers.
But this is just the very beginning.
Architectures will take into account information they themselves find relevant. Such as who the users are and what their needs are (generally speaking).
But it’s NOT ARCHITECTURES’ JOB to know what the unique selling points of your hotel are, how the concept is going to be implemented, deeper profile of your guests such as what their interests are. IT’S YOURS.
And why is this your job?
It is extremely important to assist architectures with specific information regarding your hotel concept and vision, but also service design and offer. Yes, all of that!
There is no need to explain any of this to architectures, but being CLOSELY INVOLVED in a process or having a responsible for that (a person who clearly understands hotel concept) is necessary.
One of the reasons is, it is cheaper to make changes early in the process then later.
Imagine an architecture puts a gym in a floor plan (because there is space available), when in fact your hotel concept WOULD BENEFIT MUCH MORE from having an “experience room” where cultural activities like cooking or painting would be held.
Truth is, concept is usually not well developed from the beginning so NO ONE is actually clear on the vision. Scary!
Unfortunately, most of the owners will not even question things like gym or wardrobe space or TV in rooms, anything really.
HOW COULD THEY if they haven’t come up with vivid and specific plan for guest experience?
And no, this is NOT about branding elements like incorporating colors and shapes. That one’s easy!
Being brave to decide on differentiation points, unique hospitality approach and specifics in offer is key from the very beginning, and there to remain.
