Many owners either perform MULTIPLE DUTIES themselves or MICROMANAGE their team.
This is called CHILDHOOD PHASE, which is the first two to three years of operating a hotel when it’s, as statistics show, likely to BANKRUPT.
Maybe you survived, but DID you really? How’s it going over there?
CAN YOU go on vacation knowing everything will be taken care of just as if you were there?
Can you be confident your team will make good decisions without asking you for everything? Do they even dare to?
Of course you can run your hotel this way, there is nothing wrong with that if you wish to, but it’s NOT going scale nor thrive.
You are the only eligible person to decide on the vision and direction for your hotel, and if you are busy solving dining room or reception problems you will NEVER have time for these.
Vision and direction are the most important. While you are micromanaging, your hotel is deteriorating and this brings no one good.
You might think you have enough of time and energy but as long as you are deep in your business, you are not able to see a WIDER PICTURE and plan more into the future and strategically.
This is not to say you should not be informed what is going on in every sector, not at all.
But getting a report or having a meeting once a week or making a walk across all sectors every Friday is NOT THE SAME AS being on the floor every day and problem solving instead of your team.
You’ve got some more important stuff to do that NO ONE can do better than you.
And that might be frightening, but it’s also rewarding.
